Education Helps Homeless Mother to Become Lecturer at Trinity College


Homeless and pregnant is never the right combination. Very often women who are in this situation end up being unable to break the cycle of poverty and lead extremely difficult lives. The future of their newborns is also bleak due to the poor financial situation the mothers endure. But this doesn’t mean all is lost. With the right attitude, effort and support, homeless new mothers can find a way out – through better education! Here is the story of one such mom who went on to become a lecturer at Trinity College from being a homeless and pregnant teenager.

From homeless and expecting at 15 to a lecturer at Trinity College

AGED just 15, Katriona O’Sullivan was pregnant and living in a squat – today she is a Trinity College lecturer in psychology and her son is living the dream as a professional soccer player.

Teenager Katriona dropped out of school, despite being academically bright, as she dealt with a crisis pregnancy, homelessness and isolation.

Despite an incredibly tough setback in life, the Blanchardstown woman, who is now married with two other children, battled on to achieve impressive success in life.
