Youngest Clark Atlanta University Student Gives Back In A Big Way

“When life gets hard, try to remember: the life you complain about is only a dream to some people.” – Anonymous

“Don’t judge a book by its cover” is a metaphor often used when people are truly surprised by the actions or words of another person. That phrase can definitely be applied to Emory Pruitt, a 16-year-old who became the youngest freshman ever admitted to Clark Atlanta University. And in case you are wondering, I’m not even referring to her being accepted at that age!

Pruitt was featured by 11 Alive news at the beginning of 2021 when they began seeing videos pop up online with her showing random acts of kindness towards people in her community. According to Pruitt, “I have always wanted to bless others but I never really had the money to do it. So, when God did bless me with a great amount of money, the first thing on my mind was to give back to others and those that pushed me and motivated me.”

Typical college kids of any age often become totally absorbed with their schoolwork and only pause for recreational time before diving back into their studies. It’s rare for a student to take time to find out the needs of their surrounding community, and then goes one step further to actually meet them. So for a 16-year-old student to do that, she shows great compassion and generosity beyond her years.

We all have the capability to be overly generous as well within our sphere of influence. But sadly, we forget that as we get caught up in the busyness of life and trying to make ends meet. Pruitt’s example is a refreshing reminder of what’s possible when we are intentional about making a difference to the people around us.
