Drug abuse and homelessness are among the most prominent issues plaguing the U.S. today. Despite the best efforts of the government and several non-profit organizations, the problem is a full-blown epidemic. Yet, one cannot help but believe in the power of kindness after learning about a gesture from ex-cop Jeanah Nomelli.
Around 14 years ago, Nomelli came across Will, a homeless guy digging through trash for items he could salvage. She asked him about his condition. His reply stunned her when he revealed that he turned to heroin after his wife’s death, out of the blue. His heroin addiction eventually led to loss of employment and homelessness. Touched by his story, Jeanah struck up an unexpected friendship with him until they lost touch later when Will just disappeared from her life.
After more than a decade, Will spotted her and approached her to catch up. He revealed that Jeanah’s support and kindness enabled him to change his life, including the time she gave him a jacket and a pair of boots. Their meeting in a convenience store at a gas station naturally got emotional, and they celebrated it by taking a picture together.
