Housing That Provides Hope for the Homeless in Minneapolis

“The most truly generous persons are those who give silently without hope of praise or reward.” – Carol Ryrie Brink, American Author

A charitable organization in Minneapolis, MN, called Catholic Charities, revealed the completion of a new homeless shelter project this past Wednesday which will also house their headquarters. It is a renovated nursing home-turned-shelter called Endeavors Residence and is comprised of 173 units.

Michael Goar, CEO of Catholic Charities of St. Paul and Minneapolis, stated: “This is the kind of example of the kind of change that we’re going through right now, making sure our clients are thriving in our care and really intentionally focusing on making sure they rely less on charities.”

Other amenities provided for the homeless within the shelter (besides rooms) include on-site healthcare, free Wi-Fi and cable TV, and common areas to make meals. The residence is set up to feel more like a community than a shelter.

The Endeavors Residence will be replacing Catholic Charities’ smaller Exodus Residence, located downtown. Additionally, Endeavors Residence will strive to provide a transition experience for those trying to pull themselves up out of homelessness into a more stable life, similar to a “halfway” house.
