Five Random Acts of Kindness

“Love and kindness are never wasted. They always make a difference. They bless the one who receives them, and they bless you, the giver.” – Barbara De Angelis, speaker and author

Busy-ness affects everything we see and do. On any given day, it’s likely most of the people around us are hyper-focused on “the stuff” they need to complete or the responsibilities they must attend to. This habit of hyper-focusing seriously limits their perspective to notice what’s going on with people around them or even situations that are shifting in their community right under their nose.

When you slow down long enough to take a good look at what’s happening around you, you may discover something new for yourself or become a blessing to someone else. And what’s better than an opportunity to make a difference in the life of someone around you?

GoodNet.org recently published an article titled “5 Random Acts of Kindness that Changed a Person’s Life.”  Each of those five people saw a situation and decided to do something about it rather than focusing on their agendas for that day. What happened?  Each one of their random acts of kindness made a significant difference to the person that received their help.

One person became a bridge to provide shelter to another; the second sent out a request for letters to a sick relative and hundreds were delivered; the third opted for a different type of birthday celebration and 65 people were blessed in the process; the forth was actually a group of people who overhauled a car for a local resident because the insurance company wouldn’t fix it; and finally, the fifth was a series of people involved in returning a set of dogs back to their original owners five years after being stolen from them.

Do something different this month — Make it a daily habit to slow down at least once a day as you are running errands or traveling from place to place.  Open your eyes and ears, and I’m certain you will begin to see opportunities all around you to be a blessing to others.
