“Do things for people, not because of who they are or what they do in return, but because of who you are.” – Harold S. Kushner
The smallest act of kindness has the power to ease the deepest wounds.
Dr. Paulette Brown understands this simple fact all too well, something that many of her patients can attest to. As a senior medical officer at the Agona Swedru Municipal Hospital, Dr. Brown’s boundless compassion has made a profound impact on anyone fortunate enough to be in her care.
But there was a time, however, when even she was uncertain of the path in front of her.
“All has not been rosy for me. At a point, I didn’t think I could make it to medical school, but I was actually inspired by a friend from Yemen (Salwa) and many others.” Dr. Brown said.
Luckily, during her time at medical school in China, one friend, in particular, changed her life in an unexpected way. “He told me I should always be kind to people, and these words had had a profound impact on my professional life,” Dr. Brown reflects.
These simple words made a tremendous impact on Dr. Brown both personally and professionally. For her, kindness has become a way of life.
Dr. Brown’s enduring compassion for others has not gone unnoticed. When commending Dr. Brown’s ability to go above and beyond, Dr. Julius Abuku, Acting Medical Superintendent of the facility, spoke nothing but praise.
Abuku said, “Dr. Brown relates so well to everyone in the hospital. She always goes beyond her job description of providing extraordinary medical care by assisting clients who are less privileged.”
