“We must all work together to end youth homelessness in America” – Jewel Kilcher
In the US, Nevada has the highest percentage of homeless youth living without shelter, as per HUD. Efforts to help the homeless generally focus on seniors, but the situation in Las Vegas is different. AT&T is stepping in to fill the void by launching a new initiative, titled Believe Las Vegas. The telecommunications giant will invest in measures to generate awareness for the problems the homeless youth face. Moreover, the initiative also aims to bring about a change in the situation.
The program will operate under the auspices of AT&T Believes, a major initiative that the company launched to facilitate local communities. The first step for the project includes the company investing $281,000, which they will contribute to different nonprofit organizations focused on helping homeless youth in Las Vegas. HELP of Southern Nevada will receive the biggest contribution ($213,500) to go towards expanding their capacity to house those youth.
Believe Las Vegas will also make contributions to the Las Vegas Courtyard Homeless Resource Center and the Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada. A spokesperson for the initiative mentioned that their mission is providing the infrastructure and resources that people need to turn their lives around. AT&T is also engaging its employees to help with the cause, with one volunteer event organized successfully. The company’s employees will continue their engagement in the initiative, providing mentorship to the youth who need direction in their lives.
Sheltering Grace appreciates every act of goodness, especially when it concerns the homeless. AT&T’s initiative, Believe Las Vegas, is a step in the right direction as the telecommunications giant has extensive resources to truly bring about a change in the youth homelessness situation in Nevada. Hopefully, other leading organizations will follow suit.
Sheltering Grace Ministry, Ltd. is a 501(c)3 Ltd. non-profit ministry. We resolve the initial crisis of homelessness by providing mothers with a safe place to live during pregnancy. We also equip them with the tools they need to improve decision-making, enhance employment options, and increase family income to act responsibly as the head of their household. All of our services develop their self-reliance to progress to permanent independent living. Please join us in renewing and rebuilding the lives of these brave women – #Be1of5000.
