Mission #3105 – From Great Grief Comes Great Good

Mission #3105

“There is a saying in Tibetan, ‘Tragedy should be utilized as a source of strength.’
No matter what sort of difficulties, how painful experience is, if we lose our hope, that’s our real disaster.” Dalai Lama XIV

Close to 50 police officers lost their lives in 2018 during incidents involving a shooting. September 13th, 2018 turned out to be the darkest day in Sabrina Hull’s life. Her husband, Fort Worth Police Corporal Garrett Hull, was one of those 50 officers. Badge #3105 breathed his last and left behind a grieving family. However, from this tragedy emerged something great. Sabrina decided to honor the memory of her husband by launching an initiative encouraging people to do something good.

According to her, for her husband, his work as a cop was not just a career but a calling, and she wanted to pay tribute to his spirit. For this purpose, she derived inspiration from her husband’s badge number, 3105, by launching Mission #3105. The idea behind this number is to encourage people to perform 31 acts of kindness during the month of May, ergo 3105. People embraced the initiative in interesting ways, with some even choosing to forgive others who caused them grief.

Just in its first year, the movement went viral, with people buying into the idea in different ways. Sabrina shared incidents of people paying for strangers’ lunches. In fact, a few people even went to the extent of leaving $31.05 as gratuity. People can share their acts of kindness on Facebook throughout the rest of May by tagging the post with @Mission3105.

At Sheltering Grace, we believe that processing grief and dealing with these feelings can prove a challenge for anyone. Sabrina Hull is deriving inspiration from a tragedy to not just honor her late husband, but also encouraging others to do something good for others. The world needs more people like her and we pray and hope that Mission #3105 proves a resounding success in every sense of the word!
